Trophic Level Transfer Efficiency (TLTE)
Formula: TLTE = (Assimilated Energy / Consumed Energy) × 100
Trophic Level Transfer Efficiency (TLTE) is a measure of the energy transfer efficiency between two successive trophic levels in an ecosystem. It is expressed as a percentage and is calculated by dividing the energy that is assimilated (i.e., incorporated into biomass and used for growth and reproduction) by the total energy that is consumed at the lower trophic level, and then multiplying by 100. This concept is important in understanding ecological efficiency and energy flow through food webs. Practically, it helps in managing fisheries, agriculture, and conservation projects where energy use efficiency is a concern.
