LD50 Calculation

Output: Press calculate

Formula: LD50 = (Dose × 100) / Group Size

The LD50 (Lethal Dose, 50%) calculation is a commonly used measure in toxicology which estimates the dose of a substance that is required to kill 50% of a population of test animals. It provides an understanding of the toxicity of a substance, usually represented in milligrams (mg) of the substance per kilogram (kg) of body weight. The calculation requires two parameters: the total dose given to the test animals (in mg/kg) and the size of the group of test animals. The formula assumes a linear dose-response curve. In practice, tests are conducted with different doses on multiple groups of animals, and data is plotted to determine the dose at which 50% of the animals succumb to the substance.

It is important to note that LD50 is a statistical measure, and variations can occur due to species, testing methods, and other factors affecting toxicity.
