Dependency Ratio
Formula:DR = (DP / WAP) * 100
Introduction to Dependency Ratio
The dependency ratio is a demographic measure that shows the number of dependents (aged under 15 or over 64) to the total working-age population (aged 15 to 64). The result is expressed as a percentage and is used to assess the pressure on the working population to support non-working age groups.
Parameter usage:
DP
= dependent population (under 15 or over 64)WAP
= working-age population (15 to 64)
Output:
DR
= dependency ratio in percentage
Data validation
The numbers should be greater than or equal to zero. Additionally, the working-age population should not be zero.
Summary
This formula provides a metric for understanding the proportion of the population that is dependent on the working-age population.
